Capofaro Lighthouse
Capofaro Lighthouse
In the heart of the island of Salina rises the 19th-century Capofaro lighthouse, transformed into an hotel through an adaptive reuse project. Following the principles of conservative restoration, the spaces originally dedicated to the lighthouse keeper’s accommodation have been transformed into six suites, valorising the authentic atmosphere of this place.

The project is not only an intervention of heritage restoration, but also an act of land conservation. It is part of the transformation of a place of extraordinary scenic value and great historical and cultural interest.

The philological approach included the restoration of the external frames and thresholds, while the façade was renovated using a lime plaster according to the Eolian tradition. The interior, characterised by essentiality and simplicity, maintains the original elements such as the vaulted ceilings and the spiral staircase, restored with full respect for the memory of the place.

Faced with such powerful nature and in such an evocative context, the interior design reflect on a poetic of subtraction. All details have been designed to define essential spaces, able to evoke the pleasure of time flowing slowly in the beauty of simple things.

The landscape project involved the construction of a diffuse botanical museum, where the typical species of the Mediterranean vegetation coexist with those native of the island of Salina, to offer an emotional and discovery experience for the hotel’s guests.
